Women In Medicine Committee
The Women In Medicine Committee (WIM) was formed to
help female society members build camaraderie with other female
physicians and network within the organization, as well as to
build community leaders.
Dr. Josephine Kingsley became the very first female physician to
join the Bexar County Medical Society in 1873 and since then the
influence and leadership of the female physicians in Bexar County
has yielded great leaders. Amongst them is Dr. Diana Burns-Banks
who became the first African American Board President of the
Bexar County Medical Society in 2006. She is a well-known board-
certified pediatrician in San Antonio who has also served as a past
chief of staff at Santa Rosa Children’s Hospital and has recently
joined the Bexar County Hospital District Board of Managers. She
was nominated by Bexar County Judge Nelson Wolff.

Dr. Rajam Ramamurthy was the very first Indian female Board
President of the Bexar County Medical Society in 2004. She has
held the titles of vice-chair of the American Medical Association
Medical Graduate Section and has been the medical director for
the Premature Infant Development Program at University Health
System. She has also served as a professor of pediatrics at the UT
Health Science Center in San Antonio.
The Women in Medicine Committee supports the efforts of
the Bexar County Medical Library by fundraising to support the
building of the new BCMS Headquarters.
