100 to 175 members were frequently present. The old house was torn
down and the current structure was built in 1961 and was used by the
Society until 2004.

During the 1961 dedication for the new building, Dr. P.I. Nixon was
invited to speak. One of the original founders of the Bexar County
Medical Library Association in 1912, Nixon wrote several definitive
books on the history of medicine in Bexar County. The remarks he made
in 1961 are still relevant to this dedication today:

“An educated man has been defined as one who knows where to go to

find information.

The Bexar County

Medical Society

and the Library

are now offered

as such a place.

Here within these

walls, the old and

the new have met

and have

blended. We have

not been the first

to cast the old     New French Place Building

aside; nor have

we been the last to accept the new.”

“When the G. Bedell Moore home was dedicated on this lot in 1933, the
full story of the Library was set down. The closing paragraph of one of
the addresses delivered at the time is as appropriate now as it was then:

‘So the Bexar County Medical Society and the Bexar County Medical
Library Association, so prone to wander in the past, are home at last,
permanently home. And what implications are contained in that word
home! Here we will be brought together so that we may know each
other better and learn to appreciate each other’s good points and learn
