HEALTHCARE

uate in June 2020 and most of the rising third year residents
hope to remain in the area to practice.
Program director Michael Mohr, dO, and Associate Program
director bridget Thackeray, dO, have worked tirelessly to ensure
the success of the program and each individual trainee. The
unique structure of the program allows residents to experience
clinical practice in a wide variety of underserved venues includ-
ing FQHCs, Community Mental Health Centers, veterans Ad-
ministration clinics, and private practices in health professions
shortage areas. The faculty look to foster a level of comfort with
these practice venues to encourage vocations in underserved
medicine. “When residents are looking for a job at the end of
residency, they tend to migrate towards the types of practices
they have trained in, and we hope that our broad exposure will
open their hearts to continue providing medical care to those
most in need,” says dr. Mohr. dr. Thackeray has worked for
CommuniCare for nearly a decade and notes that “there is a great
need for improved access to high quality medical care in our
community. We have outstanding trainees who will be ready to
make a difference in the lives of our patients when they complete
        their training.”
The CommuniCare Community-based Family Medicine Res-
idency Program at UIWSOM—Texas Institute for GME and
Research is a welcome addition to the San Antonio medical com-
munity. The program is always in need of continued support to
continue to operate. If you are able to assist with resident edu-
cation with didactic sessions or you can host a resident on clinical
rotations, please contact the residency coordinator, Taylor
Aoughsten at aoughste@uiwtx.edu. If you are interested in do-
