                  BCMS PHYSICIANS AND ALLIANCE MEMBERS
              HARD AT WORK DURING MARCH FIRST TUESDAYS



          last week, bCMS physicians and Alliance
        members  participated  in  several  meetings
        with legislators and staff during the March 5
        First Tuesdays visit to the Capitol.  In addi-
        tion, this event hosted the young physicians
        and residents from around the state.  With
        the legislative session now in full swing and
        committee hearings taking place, a number
        of topics were discussed, including:  Medi-
        caid;  graduate  medical  education  (GME);
        physician  loan  repayment;  Medicaid  reim-
        bursement; scope of practice; surprise billing;
        insurance network adequacy; prior authoriza-
        tions; maternal mortality; vaccinations; and
        raising the tobacco age to 21.
          Many thanks to the attendees, who made
        our visits at the Capitol a success:  Physicians

          The next First Tuesdays visit to the capitol is on April 2. We encourage all our members to get involved and participate in at

            SAN ANTONIO HAS A NEW STATE REPRESENTATIVE



                                                               last Tuesday, March 12, former City Councilman Ray lopez be-
                                                             came the winner in the runoff election for Texas House district 125,
                                                             the seat recently vacated by former state representative Justin Ro-
                                                             driguez, who is now a County Commissioner representing Precinct 2.
                                                             Once representative-elect lopez is sworn in, he will begin work in the
                                                             86th legislative session, which at the time of this writing, is fast ap-
                                                             proaching the half-way mark. Now that the district 125 seat is filled,
                                                             bexar County is back up to full representation in the Texas legislature
                                                             - 10 state representatives and 4 senators.
