        La Nigüenta

Artist’s Note: Oil and acrylic on canvas. In many of my art pieces, I draw inspiration from my Costa Rican heritage. This painting is my depic-
tion of a traditional Costa Rican folk icon, La Nigüenta. Traditionally, La Nigüenta is a small figure of a little naked girl picking out hookworms
from her toes, that is supposed to bring good luck and prosperity. I have chosen to depict a representation of my niece in traditional Costan
Rican garb sitting on a painted careta (ox cart).
