is the
oldest county medical society in Texas and the eighth largest in the U.S., with a
current membership of over 4,700 physicians representing all recognized medical
specialties. The society (and its subsidiaries) provide numerous services and benefits
to member physicians, as well as a physician referral service for the general public
and a medical credentialing service for hospitals and surgery centers. BCMS members
are enabled by the society to become active in legislative, physician and patient
advocacy at the local, state and national level.
BCMS also provides local services including things such as a Concierge Automobile
buying/leasing/financing service, social events, CME events, speaking opportunities,
discounts on services, community service opportunities, philanthropic opportunities,
San Antonio Medicine magazine, weekly communications, DocbookMD and social
media.
BCMS affiliates such as the Foundation and Alliance have spearheaded immunization
drives, Hard Hats for Kids and scholarships to aspiring students to enter the medical
field.
