Important Physician News and Deadlines
Volunteers Sought for TMA Councils & Committees
Physicians who serve on the TMA Councils & Committees (C&Cs) help initiate TMA policies and programs that affect the practice of medicine in many ways. It is important for Bexar County to have strong leaders in C&Cs. There are various opportunities available. The deadline to volunteer is Friday, January 24, 2025. View the list of openings, and learn more.

TMB Continues to Clarify New Fingerprinting Requirement
The requirement sparked confusion and concern among Texas physicians. TMA is working closely with the Texas Medical Board (TMB) to help ensure physician licenses are renewed on time as the agency takes steps to clarify the process. Most recently, TMB explained how to satisfy the requirement early. Read more.

Landmark Antitrust Settlement in BCBS Case Granted Preliminary Approval
Physicians can now file a claim in a $2.8 billion settlement fund given preliminary approval by the U.S. District Court involving Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS). The settlement is expected to bring substantial changes, including accountability, streamlining claims processing, and reducing administrative burdens. Learn more.

Covid and Flu Rates Across the US
The amount of acute respiratory illness causing Americans to seek healthcare is at a high level, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The CDC announced that in addition to Covid-19 activity increasing from low levels in most areas across the US, seasonal influenza and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) activity continues to increase while vaccine coverage for the three illnesses remain low.
