Newborns Exposed to Measles in Texas Hospital
Doctors at University Medical Center Children's Hospital in Lubbock, Texas did not realize that a young mother was infected with measles until she was already admitted and in labor. By that time, other new moms, newborns, and their families had unknowingly been exposed. Hospital staff implemented emergency masking policies and gave babies as young as three days old injections of immunoglobulin, an antibody that helps their fragile immune systems fight infections.
