UT Health San Antonio Receives $400,000 Donation from IBC Foundation for Diabetes-Related Kidney Disease Research
The IBC Foundation donated $400,000 to the Long School of Medicine at UT Health San Antonio to fund acquisition of a Thermo Altus model mass spectrometer. The mass spectrometer will enable researchers to detect specific metabolites and proteins that serve as early indicators of kidney dysfunction, helping to predict and prevent kidney failure in diabetes patients. Norovirus Stomach Bug Cases are Surging in Parts of the U.S. this Winter
Cases of norovirus appear to be on the rise in various parts of the U.S., according to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Over 90 norovirus outbreaks were reported during the week of Dec. 5, the most recent week for which CDC data is available, more than data from previous years report. Medicare's New $2,000 Prescription Drug Cap Goes into Effect
Starting Jan. 1, 2025, millions of Americans who get their prescription drugs through Medicare could get a major financial break when a $2,000 out-of-pocket spending cap on medications goes into effect. The yearly price cap has been in the works since the Inflation Reduction Act was signed into law in 2022. As a result, 19 million people are expected to save an average of $400 each. Learn more.
