FDA Advisory Panel to Consider Which COVID-19 Strain to Target with Next Round of Booster Shots
Advisors to the U.S. FDA will vote whether to recommend that COVID-19 vaccines for 2024-2025 should target the JN.1 variant, the most dominant this year. The FDA's staff stated the vaccine may need to target one of the JN.1 subvariants such as KP.2, to better combat the virus as it continues to evolve. Read more.

Whooping Cough Cases Nearly 3 Times as High as Last Year
The CDC reported that cases of whooping cough are on the rise across the United States. There have been at least 4,864 whooping cough cases reported this year. This is nearly three times higher than the 1,746 cases reported at this time last year. Learn more.

WHO Member Countries Approve Steps to Better Brace for Pandemics
The World Health Organization (WHO) says member countries approved a series of new steps to improve global preparedness and response to pandemics like COVID-19 and Mpox. During this year's World Health Assembly, the countries agreed to complete pandemic accord negotiations within the year. Read more.

As augmented and artificial intelligence (AI) dominate headlines, TMA is looking to ensure physicians' interests are represented and protected. Serving that goal, TMA seeks to expand its Committee on Health Information Technology by adding AI experts as consultants to the group. Read more.
