These 27 Drugs Will Be Subject to Medicare Rebates
The Department for Health an Human Services (HHS) and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) announced 27 drugs that will be eligible for rebates to lower out-of-pocket costs for Medicare beneficiaries. Medicare Prescription Drug Inflation Rebate Program will lower coinsurance for Medicare Part B beneficiaries, with savings between $2 and $390 per average dose starting April 1, depending on their individual coverage. Read more

Physicians Sound Off on Prior Authorization Burdens on Patients
From the perspective of physicians, prior authorization puts enormous burdens on timely and quality patient care and is even putting patients at risk for adverse outcomes. That's according to a recent survey from the American Medical Association (AMA) that queried physicians about the approval process health insurers impose on medical services or drugs through prior authorization (PA). Continue Reading

US Focuses on Limiting Spread Amid Record Bird Flu Season, but Vaccines Could Be a Possibility in the Future
The outbreak is not currently considered a serious threat to human health, according to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Globally, there have only been a handful of cases of avian flu in humans, mostly in people who had direct contact with infected birds or with surfaces contaminated with their excretions. Read more

TMA-Backed Bills Would Increase Access to Women's Reproductive, Early Childhood Health Care
Twelve-month postpartum coverage and a boost to certain Medicaid payments top a list of measures Texas lawmakers are moving on that would bolster women's health care services, in line with the Texas Medical Association's priorities for this session. Read more

DEA Permanently Lists Opioid Brorphine as a Schedule I Controlled Substance
Given the high risk of harm and no agreed-upon medical use, DEA has classified the synthetic opioid brorphine with other dangerous drugs such as heroin and LSD. Illicit brorphine has been tied to at least 21 US deaths in the United States between August 2019 and June 2021, DEA says. Read more
