Omicron Booster Authorized
Certain groups are now eligible
for another dose of the bivalent COVID-19 vaccine, and the updated
shots have now fully replaced the monovalent shots, the FDA
announced. The agency scrapped the emergency use authorizations
(EUAs) for the monovalent Moderna and Pfizer-BioNTech mRNA vaccines,
and has authorized the bivalent boosters (original plus Omicron
BA.4/BA.5 strains) for all doses starting at age 6 months. Read more

Transmitted Infections Are on the Rise, Warns CDC
Specifically, cases of
chlamydia, gonorrhea and syphilis all rose between 2020 and 2021,
totaling more than 2.5 million reported cases, according to CDC
surveillance data. From 2020 to 2021, syphilis cases increased from
133,954 to 176,713, the CDC said. The agency pointed out the cases of
congenital syphilis rose 32% during the one-year period and resulted
in 220 stillbirths and infant deaths. The cases of syphilis reported
in 2021 were the highest in 70 years, the data revealed. Read more

to Simplify COVID-19 Vaccines
The update recommends that most
people who have not been vaccinated against COVID-19 receive a single
dose of the current bivalent vaccine. The agency said it expects to
make more decisions about future doses for those who have already
received vaccine doses on the fall strain composition at an FDA
