Health officials are urging people to get vaccinated as soon as possible. COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations are continuing to creep up and the threat of other respiratory viruses, including flu and RSV, loom ahead this fall. Update: Ten Measles Cases Reported in Texas
The Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) stated that ten cases of measles have been reported in Texas this year, and six of those cases involve children between 12 and 21 months old. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends that children get two doses of MMR (measles, mumps, and rubella) vaccine in order to be protected against measles — one at age 12 to 15 months and another between 4 and 6 years old. Overdose Deaths Continue to Rise in the US
Drug overdose deaths reached another record level in the US this spring, new data from the CDC shows, as 2023 is on track to be another devastating year amid the drug epidemic. The previous record from March 2022 was first surpassed in December, and deaths have been ticking up since. In fact, more than 111,000 people died from a drug overdose in the 12-month period ending in April 2023, according to CDC. Read more
