The Centers for Disease
Control and Prevention (CDC) is issuing this Health Alert Network
(HAN) Health Update
to provide clinicians and public health authorities with updated
information about an epidemiologic investigation of pediatric cases
of hepatitis of unknown etiology in the United States.

Knowledge Is Power in the Fight Against Fraud
Every two years, the Association of
Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE) publishes a study
detailing the costs, schemes, perpetrators and victims of
occupational fraud. "Occupational Fraud 2022: A Report to the
Nations" was recently released. It covers more than 2,100
cases of white-collar crime, occurring in 133 countries. Consistent
with the previous study, the 2022 report estimates that the typical
organization loses 5% of its revenues each year to fraud.
Study Suggests Outdoor Events Safer Than Indoor
Events Regarding Potential COVID-19 Transmission
A study from the University
of Texas and the city of Austin considered the COVID-19
transmission risks at two events: a business conference with 3,000
attendees during a pandemic surge and an outdoor festival with
50,000 attendees in a low transmission period. Despite the
attendance at the hypothetical outdoor festival being more than 10
times higher than at the indoor business conference, the study’s
authors estimated that the festival would result in the infection
of only twice as many people in the community during and after the

Data Transfer Problems Burdensome for Practices
The federal government is
trying to standardize data sharing so electronic health records
across the country can all speak the same language. TMA is telling
officials to keep working on it in comments on draft standards
"for nationwide, interoperable health information
exchange." Read the letter.
