Mandatory Monthly COVID Vaccine Inventory
Reporting Starts in May
Beginning in May, COVID-19
vaccinators will be required to make monthly reports
of their vaccine inventory by the fifth of each month, according
to the Texas Department of State Health Services. Vaccine
providers who fail to make their reports by May 5 or any subsequent
fifth of the month will be suspended from ordering vaccines until
they make the report.
CDC Advisory: Availability and Use of
Treatments for Outpatients with Mild to Moderate COVID-19 Who are
at Increased Risk for Severe Outcomes of COVID-19
The Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention (CDC) is issuing this Health Alert Network (HAN) Health
Advisory to update healthcare providers, public health departments,
and the public about the availability and use of recommended
therapies for COVID-19 and to advise against using unproven
treatments that have known or potential harms for outpatients with
mild to moderate COVID-19. For patients with mild to moderate
COVID-19 who are not hospitalized and who are at increased risk for severe
COVID-19 outcomes, several treatment options are
now widely available and accessible.

I’ve Had COVID-19?
Many people assume that once you’ve
had COVID-19, you’re immune from getting re-infected. That
assumption is mistaken, says San Antonio infectious disease
specialist Jan E. Patterson, MD, a member of the Texas Medical
Association’s COVID-19 Task Force. For people who’ve already

FDA Approves First COVID Treatment for Younger Kids
FDA expanded the approval for the
IV antiviral remdesivir (Veklury), making it the first COVID
treatment approved for children younger than age 12. Remdesivir is
now approved for children as young as 28 days and weighing at least
3 kg (about 7 lb) who test positive for COVID. It can be used in
either hospitalized children or those who are not hospitalized but
