San Antonio Approves Tax Rebate for Proton Therapy Center to Treat Cancer
San Antonio City Council authorized more than $800,000 in tax rebates for a new facility that will treat cancer through proton therapy, a newer type of radiation that may cause fewer side effects. The facility will have one treatment room and serve about 450 patients a year, according to city documents. UT Health plans to partner in the research. Learn more.
Death Rates For Heart Disease And Strokes Increased During First Year Of Pandemic, Study Finds
The Hill (3/23, Vakil) reports, “During the first year of the pandemic, death rates for heart disease and strokes increased, with researchers noting racial disparities between mortality rates, a new study...found.” The study, published in JAMA Network Open, “found that the overall mortality rate increased close to 16 percent between 2019 and 2020, which the researchers attributed mostly to the COVID-19 pandemic.”
COVID Vaccines Staved Off Severe Outcomes During Omicron

Congress Extends Telemedicine Flexibilities in Medicare
