Important Physician News and Deadlines

 

Members Sought for the Medical Care Advisory Committee
If you’re interested in providing access to high quality, comprehensive medical and health care services to medically indigent people in the state, you can apply to be a member of the Medical Care Advisory Committee. The Texas Health and Human Services Commission executive commissioner will appoint members to the committee to serve a term ending Dec. 31, 2026 or Dec. 31, 2028.
Applications are due by 11:59 p.m., April 3.


Apply: Female Medical Student Scholarships
Female medical students with an eye on serving their communities can now apply for the American Muslim Women Physicians Association Merit Award. Each spring, AMWPA offers three $1,000 scholarships based on academic achievement and community service. How to apply.

What the Public Health Emergency's End Means for Coverage
Although its expiration date has been deferred several times, the federal public health emergency for COVID-19 will eventually end. The status change will likely reverse pandemic-era gains in Medicaid, telemedicine, and private coverage. TMA is diligently keeping track of the PHE and its implications for practices. Learn more.

CDC: Masks Still Recommended for Everyone in Health Care Setting
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention still recommends masking for physicians and other health care professionals to prevent the spread of COVID-19. But if physician calls to TMA are any indication, new guidelines issued by CDC have generated confusion on the subject. Read more.

Talk to Patients About: Natural COVID-19 Immunity vs. Vaccine Immunity
Some patients may opt against COVID-19 vaccination and instead risk getting sick to obtain this "natural immunity." This Q&A will help you talk to patients about why taking the vaccine is much safer, given that immunity from catching COVID can vary. Read more.
