As summer begins,
US COVID-19 cases six times higher than last year
As the US marks Memorial Day
weekend and the unofficial start of summer, the seven-day average
for COVID-19 cases in the U.S. are more than six times what they
were a year ago. The Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention (CDC) has said that about 54 percent of the U.S.
population is experiencing low COVID-19 community levels, though

Shortage: What Physician Practices Need to Know
Many factors have contributed
to the formula shortage: the temporary shutdown of a major
manufacturing plant because of safety concerns, limited number of
production facilities within the U.S., and supply chain shortages,
among others. Recent actions by the federal government and
manufacturers will help ease shortages within the next four to six

Administration’s (FDA) pending Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) of
Moderna COVID-19 vaccine for children ages six months through
five years and Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine for children ages six months
through four years, the Texas Department of State Health Services
(DSHS) is requesting providers who will be serving children
ages six months through five years to pre-order vaccine in the Vaccine Allocation
& Ordering System (VAOS).

MIPS Relief for "Uncontrollable Circumstances" in 2022
The Centers for Medicare
& Medicaid Services (CMS) is accepting 2022 applications
for its MIPS “extreme and uncontrollable circumstances” exception
and the MIPS “promoting interoperability performance category
hardship” exception. Scores for 2022 will affect 2024 payments. Applications are due by Dec. 31. You also can refer to the Quality Payment
