CDC Recommends Novavax’s COVID-19 Vaccine for Adults
The CDC Director Rochelle P. Walensky, M.D., M.P.H., endorsed the CDC Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices’ (ACIP) recommendation that Novavax’s COVID-19 vaccine be used as another primary series option for adults ages 18 years and older. Novavax’s COVID-19 vaccine, which will be available in the coming weeks. Find more information here

Getting Another Shot: Physicians Combat Post-COVID Vaccine Hesitancy
Thousands of Texas children are getting back-to-school vaccinations before starting the new academic year. As they do, Texas physicians see evidence that skepticism about the COVID-19 vaccines has turned into skepticism about all types of vaccines. There are a lot more people who have questions about vaccine safety, and there’s more vaccine hesitancy post-pandemic than there was prepandemic. Read more

Q&A: The COVID Omicron BA.4 and BA.5 Subvariants
COVID-19’s ability to mutate into faster-spreading variants and subvariants makes it a dangerous moving target for physicians and other health care professionals. These subvariants have created a sixth surge in COVID nationwide and display important differences from previous versions of COVID. Find more information here

Take Action: Support the Reduction of Unnecessary Prior Authorizations
U.S. Rep. Michael Burgess, MD and Vicente Gonzales introduced the GOLD Card Act of 2022. This legislation will reduce unnecessary prior authorizations and the delays to care. By streamlining prior authorization for physicians, this bill will allow patients to receive quality care in a timely manner. To support click here

CPT® Evaluation and Management
On Nov. 1, 2019, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) finalized a historic provision in the 2020 Medicare Physician Fee Schedule Final Rule. This provision includes revisions to the Evaluation and Management (E/M) office visit CPT® codes (99201-99215) code descriptors and documentation standards that directly address the continuing problem of administrative burden for physicians in nearly every specialty, from across the country. Toolkit Helps Identify and Respond to Monkeypox Exposures Among Health Workers
Massachusetts General Hospital developed a toolkit that can help identify and respond to potential Monkeypox exposures among health care personnel, researchers reported in Infection Control & Hospital Epidemiology. The toolkit uses an enhanced version of REDCap, a web-based software platform that supports survey and data collection. Read more
