Reflecting during Women's
History Month on the headway women have made in healthcare
illuminates many areas of progress and also the many disparities
that remain. Consider the "then" and "now" of five key issues facing
women in medicine, both as professionals and patients themselves.
CDC Recommends Additional Boosters for Certain
Individuals
CDC is updating its
recommendations to allow certain immunocompromised individuals and
people over the age of 50 who received an initial booster dose at
least 4 months ago to be eligible for another mRNA booster to
increase their protection against severe disease from
COVID-19. Others who especially benefit from boosters: people
older than 50, pregnant people, people with multiple chronic health
conditions.

- Homebound seniors: Medicare
will pay a doctor or other care provider to give the COVID-19
vaccine in the home, more info here. Additionally, Texans who are
homebound can call 844-90-TEXAS (844-908-3927) and select Option 2
to request a state mobile vaccination team to come to their home.
More COVID Relief Funds for Smaller Practices on the
Way
The fourth phase of the
federal Provider Relief Fund continues to help out medical
practices impacted by COVID-19, with authorities recently
announcing yet another round of funding, $43.6 million of which is
going to Texas practitioners. These payments are geared toward
reimbursing "smaller providers for a higher percentage of
losses during the pandemic." Here's how.
Delay Upcoming Medicare
Cut, TMA Tells Congress
With just days remaining
until the latest Medicare physician pay cut takes effect, TMA has
been lobbying for an eleventh-hour act of Congress to stop it. In a
letter to all Texas members of the U.S. House of Representatives
and Senate, TMA urged Congress to delay the 1% reduction, which is
scheduled to take effect April 1 and would last through June 30,
then be replaced by a permanent 2% cut. Learn more.
