CDC Recommends
Pediatric COVID-19 Vaccine for Children 5 to 11 Years
CDC Director Rochelle P.
Walensky, M.D., M.P.H., endorsed the CDC Advisory Committee on
Immunization Practices’ (ACIP) recommendation that children 5 to 11
years old be vaccinated against COVID-19 with the Pfizer-BioNTech
pediatric vaccine. CDC now expands vaccine recommendations to about
28 million children in the United States in this age group and
allows providers to begin vaccinating them as soon as
possible.

Pediatric Groups Declare “Emergency” in Child Mental
Health Care
COVID-19’s psychological toll
has been particularly heavy on children and adolescents. That
prompted the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American Academy
of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, and the Children’s Hospital
Association to declare a “national state of emergency” in
children’s mental health.
CDC Health Alert: Multistate Investigation of
Non-travel Associated Burkholderia pseudomallei Infections
(Melioidosis)
Whole genome sequencing (WGS)
at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) confirmed
that the strain of Burkholderia pseudomallei in bottles of
aromatherapy room spray matches the bacterial strain that sickened
all four patients. The outbreak strain was identified in a
bottle of “Lavender & Chamomile” scented room spray found in
the home of the Georgia resident who was infected and died from B.
pseudomallei infection (melioidosis) in July 2021. Read full health alert.

has sued federal authorities over rulemaking for the federal
