COVID-19 Public Health Emergency Extended
The national public health emergency related to COVID-19 has been extended to July 20 and likely will be extended throughout 2021,Texas Medical Association experts say the extension allows the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) to maintain several COVID-19-related Medicare waivers and flexibilities, including paying the same rate for telemedicine visits as for in-person visits, and allowing use of audio-only telemedicine services. Virtual First Tuesdays at the Capitol
Join TMA at noon on the first Tuesday of the month (April and May 2021) for a virtual legislative update and trip to the Capitol. TMA’s lobby team will outline issues important to medicine and actions you can take now to make a difference. Registration is FREE.

TMA Leadership College Class of 2022
The application to apply for the TMA Leadership College Class of 2022 is now open. Applicants must be active TMA members in good standing and in their first eight years of practice post-residency/fellowship. Applications are due Friday, June 25th. Apply here

FDA: N95 Masks, Now Plentiful, Should No Longer Be Reused
The Biden administration has taken the first step toward ending an emergency exception that allowed hospitals to ration and reuse N95 medical masks, the first line of defense between frontline workers and the deadly coronavirus. US manufacturers say there are now surpluses of N95 masks, and hospitals say they have stockpiles that can last for months, so “the government says hospitals and healthcare providers should try to return to one mask per patient.
