Monoclonal Antibody Cocktail Authorized for Post-COVID Exposure
FDA has expanded the emergency use authorization (EUA) for the monoclonal antibody cocktail casirivimab and imdevimab, to include post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) among certain people exposed to COVID-19, manufacturer Regeneron. Casirivimab-imdevimab (REGEN-COV) is the first monoclonal antibody treatment that can be used either as a treatment for COVID-19 or after exposure but prior to a positive COVID-19 test.

COVID-19 associated with acceleration of Alzheimer’s symptoms
Researchers have found a link between Alzheimer’s Disease and COVID-19. The research found that COVID could play a role in advancing Alzheimer’s in some patients. The Alzheimer’s Association said many coronavirus survivors deal with the loss of smell and taste, as well as persistent forgetfulness. Continue reading.

Medicaid Relaxes Prior Authorization for Hep C Antiviral Drugs

For years, Texas Medicaid patients with hepatitis C haven’t had access to overwhelmingly effective, often-curative antiviral therapy unless they had advanced liver disease. The Texas Medical Association and others have advocated for change for years and this year, the Texas Legislature made it happen. TMB Extends Emergency Telemedicine Pain Script Waiver
The latest extension runs through Oct. 13 at 11:59 pm CT (or until the end of the governor's COVID-19 disaster declaration, whichever is shorter). It allows physicians to issue the refills via telephone or telemedicine under certain conditions. Get the details.
