Important Physician News and Deadlines

Finally! COVID Vaccinations for Physicians and Their Staff
On January 10th, we held a Tier 1A event for our physician members and practice staff. We administered almost 2,000 COVID-19 vaccinations, despite rain, sleet and snow! We have a lot to be proud of at BCMS!  A huge thank you to H-E-B pharmacy for administering the vaccine and UIW School of Pharmacy. View photos.

We can all agree that the roll-out of the COVID vaccine has been slow and complicated. Under the state and federal mandates, Phase 1a vaccines go to physicians and front-line medical workers. However, the only physicians that have been able to get access to the vaccines are those who work at hospitals or have hospital privileges. What about the thousands of physicians and staff that do not have hospital privileges? For them, vaccinations are as scarce as hens’ teeth. Many of them face COVID risk every day in their offices. Bexar County Physician Road to Recovery
Dr. Nasir Syed, a pulmonologist and BCMS member, developed COVID-19 over six months ago. Dr. Syed was critically ill and as his symptoms worsened, he was flown to Dallas for a lung transplant. The transplant was successful and now Dr. Syed remains in Dallas recovering and learning to breath again.

COVID Vaccines for Physicians and Staff
BCMS continues to work with pharmacies and hospitals to coordinate COVID-19 vaccinations for physicians and their front-line staff who do not have access to COVID vaccinations through a hospital where they are privileged. For the latest information about this effort, click here.

Volunteers Needed: COVID-19 Mass Vaccination Clinics
Volunteer Licensed Medical Professionals and others are needed for the Mass Vaccination Clinics being held at the Alamo Dome and WellMed clinics on the south and west side of San Antonio. In these difficult times of having vaccine access, this is a
GREAT opportunity to get your COVID-19 vaccination as all volunteers are eligible to be vaccinated  at the end of your shift!

All vaccinators/drawers must register on the Texas Disaster Volunteer Registry (TDVR) with the Alamo Area Medical Reserve Corps (MRC).

UT Health San Antonio Long-CO Survey
The Long-CO (Long School of Medicine COVID-19 Medical Student Response Team) Evidence-based Medicine Team (EBM) formed four sub teams: Epidemiology, Diagnostics, Clinical Presentation, and Treatment to review current literature and create executive summaries and information sheets summarizing the literature for use by clinicians throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. The purpose of this survey is to assess whether the executive summaries have been helpful. The survey should take approximately 10-15 minutes to complete. Take survey.

TMA Insurance Trust Provides Financial Help for Struggling Physicians

COVID-19 Vaccine Study for Adolescents
A research study conducted by Moderna is testing an investigational vaccine that may protect adolescents who are between the ages of 12 - 17 from getting sick if they come into contact with the SARS-COV-2 virus, which causes COVID-19; also known as coronavirus. View trial details.
