BCMS Board of Directors Change

Dr. Adam Ratner, BCMS President, is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Rajeev Suri to the Board of Directors of the Bexar County Medical Society.

Dr. Ratner also recognizes the appointment of Dr. Ryan Van Ramshorst, who is leaving the BCMS Board to accept the position as Chief Medical Director at HHSC for the Medicaid/CHIP Division. 

Both of these BCMS physicians are to be congratulated on their appointments and their dedication to the practice of medicine.

New Anti-Infectives Workshop; CME Opportunity

The first ever Pre-Conference Anti-Infectives Workshop will take place before the 2019 Practical Applications of New Agents in Oncology Conference on Feb. 1, 2019. This is a CME opportunity for BCMS members.

Sponsored by UT Health San Antonio, the conference will be at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center from noon to 4 p.m. on Feb. 1.
The cost schedule is $100 for physicians and pharmacists; $50 for other health professionals and trainees.

Legislative Update - Inauguration

The 86th Legislative Session opened Jan. 8 and Rep. Dennis Bonnen (R-Angleton) was elected unanimously by the House of Representatives as our new Texas House Speaker.  On Jan. 15, inauguration festivities for Gov. Greg Abbott and Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick took place on the north steps of the State Capitol. LIFT Training – CME Opportunity

On Saturday, February 9th, 2019, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., the University of the Incarnate Word School of Osteopathic Medicine's chapter of American Medical Women's Association and Physicians Against the Trafficking of Humans will be hosting a training for healthcare providers to recognize and assist patients who are victims of sex trafficking.
The Learn, Identify, Fight Trafficking (LIFT) training will be held at the UIW School of Osteopathic Medicine and facilitated by Dr. Mollie Gordon.
This FREE training will cover essential information about human trafficking, including but not limited to the definition and prevalence of trafficking, populations at risk, mechanisms of trafficking, red flags in a healthcare setting, and available resources. 

Learn, Identify, Fight Trafficking (LIFT) Training

What: Training for healthcare professionals to recognize and assist patients who are victims of sex trafficking.

Where:, University of the Incarnate Word School of Osteopathic Medicine, Brooks City Base, 7615 Kennedy Hill, Building 4- Interactive Learning Space 4, San Antonio, TX 78235.

When: Saturday, February 9th, 9:00am-1:00pm

Cost: The training is FREE. CME credit is available.
