Candidates for Congress and Fourth Court of
Appeals visit with BCMS Legislative and Socioeconomics Committee On Aug.
22, members of the BCMS Legislative and Socioeconomics Committee welcomed the
candidates running for Congressional District 21: Republican candidate,
Chip Roy and Democratic candidate, Joseph Kopser (Pictured at left, third
from left). Roy and Kopser face each other in November for the seat
being vacated by Congressman Lamar Smith, who is retiring. A number of
topics were discussed, including: medical schools and graduate medical
education; scope of practice, Medical Practice Act, physician ownership and
the ACA. In
addition, the committee visited with Justice Rebeca Martinez, Democratic
candidate for re-election to the Fourth Court of Appeals, Place 7. For

Dr.
Lynnette Watkins, Tenet Chief Medical Officer- Texas Market, recognized PVA
Vascular Surgeon, Dr. Gerardo Ortega, for organizing and chairing the 2018
Wound Care Conference. This annual conference started 17 years ago and
has provided continuing education to medical providers throughout the region. Note:
Due
to a technical error, members using an iPhone or iPad were unable to see the
picture of Dr. Ortega last week so we are running it one more time. |
