Candidates for Congress and Fourth Court of Appeals visit with BCMS Legislative and Socioeconomics Committee

On Aug. 22, members of the BCMS Legislative and Socioeconomics Committee welcomed the candidates running for Congressional District 21:  Republican candidate, Chip Roy and Democratic candidate, Joseph Kopser (Pictured at left, third from left).  Roy and Kopser face each other in November for the seat being vacated by Congressman Lamar Smith, who is retiring.  A number of topics were discussed, including:  medical schools and graduate medical education; scope of practice, Medical Practice Act, physician ownership and the ACA.

In addition, the committee visited with Justice Rebeca Martinez, Democratic candidate for re-election to the Fourth Court of Appeals, Place 7.

For local discussion on these and other legislative advocacy topics, consider joining the BCMS Legislative and Socioeconomics Committee by contacting Mary Nava, chief government affairs officer at mary.nava@bcms.org.
