The Texas Department
of Insurance, Division of Workers’ Compensation (TDI-DWC) seeks input on the
development of an Opioids Plan-Based Audit (Plan-Based Audit) to
evaluate the appropriateness of a health care provider’s decision-making and
recordkeeping that supports prescribing opioids for each treatment plan
tailored to a specific injured employee. The Plan-Based Audit sets the scope,
methodology, selection criteria, and program area responsibilities according
to the Medical Quality Review Process. A copy of the proposed Opioid
Plan-Based Audit is available on the TDI website at www.tdi.texas.gov/wc/hcprovider/medadvisor.html. The Opioid
Plan-Based Audit is a part of the approved CY 2018 Medical Quality
Review Annual Audit Plan, which is available on the TDI website at https://www.tdi.texas.gov/wc/hcprovider/documents/auditplan18.pdf
. Workers’ compensation system participants can submit suggestions
for this Plan-Based Audit by email to OMA@tdi.texas.gov by 5 pm Central time on Monday,
April 16, 2018. If you have any questions, contact Mary Landrum at 512-804-4814
or Mary.Landrum@tdi.texas.gov. |

Dear Friends, As part of our 300th year Birthday
Celebration, a group of physicians was determined to include as part of the
festivities a look at our 300 years of history and advancements in medicine
in San Antonio. The symposium on May 12 seeks to give
perspectives on all aspects of our medical history, from the earliest times
of native medicine, to the actual precision medicine practiced in the 21st
Century. You will also learn about the history of our hospitals and our
multiple learning institutions. Our designated speaker will share with us his
thoughts about how “Health Institutions are the Future of San Antonio.” I want to thank all of my colleagues and the
administrative staff which has endured one full year of work to get to this
point. Please enjoy. Alfonso Chiscano, MD |
