Fall General Membership Meeting

Dear BCMS Members:

BCMS is pleased to host a first-ever Legislative Forum on Thursday, Oct. 12 at UT Health San Antonio Holly Auditorium.  The program, offering CME credit, will start with a networking hour at 5:30 p.m. followed by the Legislative Forum at 6:30 p.m.

TMA President, Carlos Cardenas, MD will serve as keynote and moderator for the event.  Legislators who have confirmed their participation in the Forum, include:

Dist. 26 – Sen. Jose Menendez

Dist. 116 - Rep. Diana Arevalo

Dist. 117 – Rep. Philip Cortez

Dist. 118 – Rep. Tomas Uresti

Dist. 119 – Rep. Roland Gutierrez

Dist. 120 – Rep. Barbara Gervin-Hawkins

Dist. 124 – Rep. Ina Minjarez

The BCMS Legislative and Socioeconomics Committee, under the leadership of Chairman, Alex Kenton, MD, is very active throughout the year hosting meetings with members of our state legislature on an individual basis.  It was through the work of this group that the idea of the presentation of the Legislative Forum first originated.

During each legislative session, our elected officials go to bat for physicians and patients.  Physicians participate in First Tuesdays, go to the Capitol to testify on medicine’s issues and many serve as key contacts with our elected officials.

Now, more than ever, we need many more of our members to become involved in legislative advocacy.  Your help is greatly needed in so many areas of healthcare concerns, including: Medicaid, scope, insurance, public health, women’s health, and many others.  The first step to becoming involved is to become informed on these and other issues.

Click here to register to attend the Legislative Forum on Oct. 12.  Come early to meet and visit with some of our elected officials from San Antonio who represent you, your patients and your practice in the Texas House and Senate.  If you have a particular question for our legislators, you may submit your question online as well.

For more information, contact Mary Nava, BCMS Chief Government Affairs Officer and Lobbyist at mary.nava@bcms.org or by calling (210) 301-4395.

Sincerely,

Leah Jacobson, MD
President
