Special Session off
to a fast start Last Tuesday, July 18, members of the Texas House and
Senate returned back to work in Austin for the first called Special Session
of the 85th Legislative Session to tackle a number of items on the
Governor’s agenda. At the top of the agenda is the Sunset
legislation, which would provide for the continuance of state agencies that
were under sunset review during the 85th Regular Session, one of
which, is the Texas Medical Board (TMB). The Senate passed its sunset
legislation after midnight on July 20. The full House is expected to
take action on sunset legislation in the coming week. For more information and to read Governor Abbott’s
special session proclamation, along with a list of the announced agenda
items, click on the following links: https://gov.texas.gov/news/post/governor-abbott-adds-19-items-to-special-session-call Stay tuned to this column for continuous updates on the
Special Session. For local discussion on this and other legislative
