Members of the BCMS Legislative and
Socioeconomics Committee met last week with State Representative Ina Minjarez
(House Dist 124) and Congressman Will Hurd (TX-23). Discussion with
Rep. Minjarez took place on Oct. 24 and focused on state issues, including:
surprise billing and the upcoming legislative session. With the 85th
Legislative Session beginning in January, committee members have been very
active over the last few months conducting visits with our state
representatives and state senators to discuss medicine’s issues in
preparation for the upcoming session. Committee members met with Congressman
Will Hurd on Oct. 26 and discussion centered on a number of federal issues,
including: the Veterans Administration, electronic health records,
health information exchanges, medical clearing houses, MACRA, health care
access, Obamacare, the Appropriations budget and cyber security.
Congressman Hurd expressed to attendees his desire to continuing his work on
all these issues and asked the doctors to feel free to provide input both
locally and during visits to DC. For local discussion on these and
other legislative advocacy topics, consider joining the BCMS Legislative and
Socioeconomics Committee by contacting Mary Nava at mary.nava@bcms.org. |
