Final MACRA rule expands exemptions, flexibility Nearly a third of
physicians could be exempt from Medicare's new merit-based incentive payment
system under a final rule the CMS issued for implementing the Medicare Access
and CHIP Reauthorization Act. The CMS also signaled it
would broaden the opportunities for physicians to participate in alternative
models that make them eligible for bigger rate increases and bonuses. For more information click here. |

physician members show support for elected officials Last week, several physicians attended
separate receptions honoring San Antonio Mayor Ivy Taylor and State Senator
Donna Campbell, MD (District 25). On Oct. 11, Drs. Leah Gross and Zach
Stinson hosted a reception in their home honoring Mayor Ivy Taylor. Dr.
Leah Gross is the daughter of Dr. Sheldon Gross, a member of the physician
host committee. A TEXPAC-sponsored event, honoring
Sen. Donna Campbell was held on Oct. 12 at the home of Dr. Buddy and Kathy
Swift. Attendees heard from Dr. Campbell on several topics of interest,
including: taxes, the state budget, mental health, annexation and the
upcoming legislative session. For local discussion on
these and other legislative advocacy topics, consider joining the BCMS
Legislative and Socioeconomics Committee by contacting Mary Nava, chief
