CMS
answers call to help physicians
convert
their practice to ICD-10
Mandatory
roll-out begins Oct. 1 with a one-year transition grace period
By
Mary E. Nava, MBA
Chief
Governmental and Community Relations Officer
The Centers for
Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and the American Medical
Association (AMA) have announced they will continue in their
educational efforts so that physicians are ready for the Oct. 1
switch from ICD-9 to ICD-10 coding, with an added plus -- a one-year
transition grace period. As you will recall, TMA, along with the
state associations of California, New York and Florida, recently
urged CMS for a two-year, penalty-free and audit-free grace
period. With the Oct. 1 deadline less than three months away,
TMA has compiled a number of resources to assist physicians with
preparations for the roll-out.
To read the
CMS/AMA announcement and comments from TMA President Tom Garcia, MD,

local discussion on this and other practice management and
legislative advocacy topics, consider joining the BCMS Legislative
and Socioeconomics Committee by contacting Mary Nava.

BCMS Call for Nominations
|
Physician-members
of the Bexar County Medical Society:
This is the time of year we ask for nominations for
elected officers to lead the Bexar County Medical Society. I would
like to challenge all member-physicians to think hard about who
should be elected to impact the direction of medicine in San Antonio
and Bexar County.
We need strong leaders. Apathy is not a
strategy. Please think about who you want to represent you to your
colleagues and the outside world; let's have multiple candidates
running for every position. Practices would be well-served to designate
representative physicians from those practices or other practices to
get involved to make a difference. We really need you! The society is
only as good as the physicians you elect to run it!
Thanks,
Steve Fitzer
CEO/Executive Director
Bexar County Medical Society
