If only the U.S. Senate had acted...SGR cuts became
effective April 1
Contact U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz
to urge Senate
action
By Mary E. Nava, MBA
Chief Governmental and Community Relations
Officer
With the 21-percent Medicare SGR
cut now in effect, time is now even more crucial to work with our
U.S. Senators to advance quick passage of HR2, the Medicare Access
and CHIP Reauthorization Act of 2015. TMA has been working closely
with Senate Majority Whip John Cornyn to ensure the Senate passes
the bill. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Kentucky)
pledged to take up the bill when the Senate reconvenes April 13.
TMA also urges all Texas
physicians to send calls and letters to Sen. Ted Cruz's
office. Tell Senator Cruz that:
- Delaying
a decision on SGR repeal puts physician practices, and the
Medicare and TRICARE patients they serve, at risk.
- The
SGR has never controlled Medicare costs and never will. It's
time to, as TMA
President Austin King, MD, says, "remove
this annual albatross from around the necks of Texas
physicians."
- Even
if, for some reason, he opposes HR 2, we ask Senator Cruz not
to stand in the way of a quick Senate vote on this critical
piece of legislation.
