U.S. Senate passes bill
to repeal Medicare's SGR, 98-2
President Obama signs bill into law
By Mary E. Nava, MBA
Chief Governmental and Community Relations
Officer
On April 14, the U.S. Senate
overwhelmingly passed HR 2, the Medicare Access and CHIP
Reauthorization Act, the bipartisan legislation which would
immediately repeal the flawed Medicare Sustainable Growth Rate
(SGR).
After 12 grueling years of
fighting to fix the SGR formula, physicians everywhere can now take
a rest. The legislation was sent to President Obama and on April
16, HR 2 was signed into law.
"We will have to study the
bill further to determine any ancillary effects on physicians, but
the loss of the SGR and the doc fix fight every year is certainly a
good thing," said BCMS President James Humphreys, MD.
The House passed the bill back on
March 26 with a resounding 392-37 margin.

passage of HR 2 and comments by TMA President Austin King, MD, click here.
