Communication between referral sources

By John K. Wisniewski

BCMS CEO/Executive Director

One of the most manageable components of a patient's overall care is the communication of important information among multiple treating physicians.

What was once a direct exchange is now more commonly automated and/or delegated. This would be a good week to make sure the system you use today is truly working for you and your colleagues.

Schedule time for a real, live conversation with the physicians with whom you share patients. Involve key staff, if necessary, to get an accurate assessment.

Reaffirm that your process of exchanging clinical information is resulting in the best care possible.

Legislators are holding state budget hearings now.

Please call, write, email or fax the legilsators who are championing these efforts within the next two weeks to let them know how this issue impacts you and your patients.
